Putnam JV 14 Canby 30

It was a nice effort for the most part with a few mental break downs that allowed some big plays by Canby. Physically we were a better team but mentally we were beat before we stepped on the field. From what I understand there was discussion all week about an invincible player for Canby who could not be stopped and how he would do us harm. You now know how silly this talk was. The lesson to learn from this is a life lesson. When you step on to a field, court, or even into a classroom you must know that you will do your best whatever the outcome. This confidence will at the very least give you a chance to succeed. On the other hand when we allow fear to creep into the equation and start to believe that things are greater or lees than what they really are, well now we are in trouble.

This week will be about assignments, staying mentally strong, and playing with confidence for 4 full quarters. "O" line keep up the good work, ball carriers keep running hard, skilled positions keep striving to get better. If you believe, we will become a great team.

Tigard comes to play this week with an undefeated record. Well coached with talent. How are we going to respond from last weeks loss? Are you willing to put out the effort both physically and mentally? We as coaches believe in you, so be proud and play hard, good things will happen.

Putnam JV 26 Oregon City 6

During a season a coach looks at a schedule, scouts the team for the next week and makes an assessment on how his team should do. Sometimes opportunities to win games are squandered by lack of preparation or lack of effort. Suffice it to say all efforts have been rewarded with a 4-0 start which promises to be a wild ride to the finish.

Now so far I have been reluctant to celebrate over this fantastic start. The reason being is that the season gets tougher from here on out and teams are taking notice of who the 7th grade Kingsmen are and that there might actually be some talent on this side of the river after all. The second half of this season will be a defining moment. I can say this because I know of the Talent that will be in front of us for the next four weeks.

Form tackling, blocking targets, knowing your responsibilities and conditioning is what keeps you in a ball game. The heart of a winner is what will win that game for you.Are you willing to do the work that needs to be done?If so we will celebrate Kingsmen but only when we finish what we started. By 5 o'clock on Saturday we will know which decision we have made.

Canby comes in undefeated and confident. We must play our best of the season so get your home work done early, take your vitamins and eat well 'cause it is time to turn it up yet another notch. Time to go Cougar hunting. Go Kingsmen!

Putnam JV 18 Sherwood 0

What a way to start the season 3-0. The Offensive Line did an outstanding job blocking which allowed our guys to make positive yardage almost every play. On the Defensive side of the ball our hard hitting and gang tackling wore down and broke yet another team.

Our individual effort at times is great but we need a great team effort to keep winning. Know your responsibilities and go hard as a unit. Ask questions during practice so you can better help the team with your knowledge and athletic ability. You are a talented group of young men and hard work will make us a great team.

Ready yourself for a tough O.C. team that likes to hit. But I think we like to hit just a little harder so let's smack them hard from the kick off and leave no doubt who brought the hammer to this fight.

Putnam JV 30 Sunset 14

Well that makes it two in a row. Sunset played an inspired game and a full four quarters that made for an interesting finish. We may have had them beat in the speed catagory and that made the difference. That difference will not be there every week and effort is what will win most of our games for the rest of the year. Blocking, Blocking, and more Blocking drills will be the emphasis this week in practice without it we become a one dimesional team.

You as players wanted to win some games and now you have. I couldn't be any more proud of that acomplishment. But with success comes expectations and the pressures to meet those expectations. It is how we, coaches and players alike, deal with those pressures that will define what this season will become.

Sherwood is always well coached and talanted so we have to play hard and to our fullest potential. GO KINGSMEN!!!!

Putnam JV 39 Hillsobro 19

Congratulations on well deserved win on Saturday. You played with a bit of an attitude and took it to Hillsboro from the beginning. I cannot emphasize enough what it means to come out hard at the start of a game and put the pressure on a team and keep it on them until they fold under the pressure. With that being said we made our share of mistakes as players and coaches. We will fix those issues this week in practice and get ready for a very good Sunset team.

The main topic for this week and probably the rest of the year is playing time and why certain individuals are getting limited time on the field during the games. First year players take most of a season to figure out this new language we call football. The terminology, the contact, wearing of heavy equipment, the loud coaches, and the overall abuse the body goes through, is at best chaotic for most new players.

For some players who have played before but it is there first year with me and you are having a hard time adjusting to my expectations and the role I want you to play, I say just have trust that I'm doing what is best for the Team and play hard.

To the players that I have had the honor of coaching for at least one year you already know that even if you are not the biggest or the fastest you will earn playing time for effort. That means effort every play in practice without taking plays off. You will find this trait will serve you well in more than just football.

We have a tough schedule this year so everybody is needed to step up and do their part to ensure a successful season. Our goal this week will be working toward 4 quarters of hard hitting Putnam football. Keep up the intensity and let's take it to the Apollos this Saturday.
